Next Store Stocking & Taking a Break

Just to let everyone know, I will be doing only one more store stocking and then I'll be taking a break from nappy making.

I have pastel shades of minky and more quilters cotton as well as lots of microfleece. I also have some Malden Mills Windpro fleece left which I will use up.

This will be a big stocking which I am hoping to do by the end of April.

New nappies coming soon!

I've just received a big shipment of fabric from the USA - beautiful top quality quilters cotton for nappy outers and Malden Mills Wind Pro fleece for Panda Nights nappies.

I have two extra colours to choose from with the Panda Nights nappies: Magenta and Cream, and I also have more ice blue.

I also would like to say: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2009 is already looking great for Panda Baby - more cool looking fabrics AND keep a look out for the New Improved AIO nappy....coming soon....those on my mailing list will get first priority via the newsletter.

A new trial on fitted nappies - nappies without PUL

My son has been getting a nappy rash that I can't seem to get rid of. I've tried creams and powders etc but for some reason, I'm suspecting that the PUL inside the nappies might have something to do with his rash. It shouldn't because it's meant to be breathable.
So, I made 3 nappies yesterday.

Nappy 1. is made with an outer of microfleece, a quilters cotton panel and lined inside with flanelette. (guitars)

Nappy 2. is made with a quilters cotton outer and a suede cloth inner. (Cars)

Nappy 3. is made with a quilters cotton outer and a sherpa inner. (cars & Aussie city maps)

Each nappy has a sewn in booster which is made up of 1 layer of bamboo, a layer of microfibre and then another layer of bamboo on top of the microfibre.

Each nappy also has two layers of bamboo sewn in (hidden) under the inner.

Keeping in mind that there's no PUL in these nappies, I made sure that I changed him every few hours. I probably could've left them on a little bit longer as well, but I wasn't going to risk it, plus I wanted to check on how his rash was going.

I did put some Curash powder on his bottom and the first nappy didn't last long (Nappy 3) because he gave it his "poop of approval". The next nappy (Nappy 2) was changed 3 hours later and wasn't drenched I thought it would be, as he had a drink before I put this nappy on him. His bottom wasn't worse and the rash seemed to be getting a little bit better - not a lot, but at least it wasn't getting worse.
Nappy 1 was then put on and he wore this nappy right up to his bath time at around 6pm. Again, it wasn't soaked, but it was wet and his rash looked the same. At least it hadn't gotten worse, like it had been getting over the last couple of days.

These nappies are now in the wash and I will see how long they take to dry. It's not that sunny outside and today's maximum temp is going to be 16 degrees C. I will be back with an update tomorrow.

OH and I should also mention - I DID NOT PUT A COVER OVER THE TOP OF THESE NAPPIES.
I believe if I were to go with fitted nappies for my son, I would be changing them more often.

Hi lovely readers!

I'm just posting here to let everyone know that I'll be back to nappy making hopefully tomorrow.

I have been quite sick - I had suspected appendicitis and was in hospital. Luckily, no surgery was required, but I'm to go back if I feel I need to. I don't want to, but you can't muck around with these things!

At the moment, I do have some orders to finish off and send away, as well as getting ready for the next Great Down Under Nappy Hunt. I'm very excited to be a sponsor and it's my first time, so I hope it goes very smoothly.

I have also been looking at buying more minky.....if you aren't on my emailing list, please email me at: pandababy@pandababy.com.au and insert: add to distribution list in the subject line and I will add you to my list. I will be emailing those on my list when I have some new nappies in the store - especially those nappies made with minky :)

New Style Nappies

The new style allows for an easier way to do up nappies while you may have a baby that wriggles and squirms everytime you go to change their nappy. It has a front closure, rather than a side closure, and it will fit around the waist a lot better. It still allows for chubby thighs or chicken legs.

So far on testing, it's doing very well. I haven't had any faults at all *touch wood* and the babies that have worn this style haven't wet through after an approximately 4 hour sleep.

These are a couple of size small, applix closure, girly nappies.
One has cute fairies with fairy dust sparkles on it and the other is tinkerbell.
They both have a gorgeous girly flanelette inside for the inner and a matching booster each.

Medium Night Nappy with Velcro Closure

This is a night nappy that I have made today. I have attached two rows of "loop" velcro to the front panel to ensure that the nappy will not fall open overnight! (see third photo).

The second photo shows the inside of the night nappy and the extras that come with the nappy. One bamboo/cotton trifold covered in sherpa, one lay-in booster which comprises of layers of bamboo/cotton, microfibre and covered in sherpa and the nappy itself, if you can see (where the date stamp is on the photo) I sew in extra bamboo/cotton and microfibre hidden under the sherpa right up to the top of the nappy in a "T" shape. The rise on the nappy is quite high - much higher than my regular day-time nappies.

I use 85% Bamboo/15% Organic Cotton Fleece (Skal certified organic cotton)
Weight: 430gsm in ALL my nappies

A nappy made with Aplix closure

Just thought I would show you a nappy that I made for someone today. This mum prefers aplix to snaps.

The outer is pink coloured ("candy") microfleece outer with a quilters cotton panel consisting of a background of green with pink flowers. The inside comprises of a very pretty and girly flanelette. Aplix is used to close the nappy and I've sewn in laundry tabs so that the aplix can be folded back so not to catch on other items in the wash. Hidden and sewn-in PUL and layers of bamboo complete this All In One nappy.

I've made an additional lay-in booster made from bamboo, microfibre and matching pink microfleece.

That's right - CUSTOM MADE nappies are now available at Panda Baby.

The basic nappy is $15 and this includes:

Microfleece outer
Flanelette inner
sewn-in bamboo
Aplix or snaps closures
Elastic legs and waist

It is a "fitted nappy" which means it has no sewn-in waterproofing (PUL).

As well as the basic nappy, you may add other options, whether or not you would like PUL or a booster or two etc.

Blue and Pink Camo Minky Nappies...with matching jingle balls!

These nappies are a size Large All-In-One Nappy and have already been sold, sorry, but I'm proud that I was able to make matching balls with a jingle bell inside them LOL. I'm sure the babies who these were made for will love them. I'm thinking of putting these in the shop as a "gift idea". What do you think?

They are minky outers with matching microfleece inner, hidden sewn-in PUL and bamboo with a matching snap-in bamboo and microfibre covered with microfleece booster.

I'm going to go through each remaining nappy I have in stock and make sure they are listed in the correct size.

I believe that some of my size Large nappies have been a bit smaller than what some customers expected.

If you have bought a nappy that is a tight fit for your baby, please let me know and I'm sure I can work something out for you.
